Life Verse
Written on Monday, August 18th, 2008.
This particular writing is not really a devotional. This week I’ve decided to emphasis the Importance of a life verse. Let’s face it, often times ever the strongest of Christians need some assurance that God is with them. One of the best ways I’ve found to do that is to find a passage in the Bible that speaks to you no matter how many times you read it. When times of doubt come, just recall the passage God has spoken through before and dwell on God.
My life verse is Jeremiah 20:9 In the ESV (English Standard Version) it reads,
“9 If I say, "I will not mention him,
or speak any more in his name," there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.”
This verse always gets me thinking about my next opportunity to spread God’s word. Jeremiah’s life was marked by his constant struggles with the king of Israel, King Zedekiah. Jeremiah suffered many things for speaking the messages that God was giving to him. If he we’re alive today many people would tell him to just throw in the towel and give up. However, even when Jeremiah wanted to, he couldn’t because the messages God would give him would eat at him until he pronounced the truth God had given him to preach.
That’s where I want to be in my walk with God. I want his truth to burn in me until I proclaim it boldly. This verse reminds me that even when I am weary, God’s word should be compelling me to proclaim it even more, because I’ll wear down even more if I don’t.
Perhaps you need to find a verse that speaks to you. Why not start reading the Bible and see what you find!
