BPC's Brown named NAIA Volleyball Player of Week;

Lady Barons' Paul also earns Region XIII, conference honors

MOUNT VERNON -- Brewton-Parker College's unbeaten run of five volleyball matches during the week of Oct. 6-12 produced the NAIA National Player of the Week and another player who also received regional and conference honors.

Melissa Brown, a sophomore middle hitter, was named the NAIA National, NAIA Region XIII and Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference Player of the Week.

Also, junior setter Jeni Paul earned Region XIII and GACC Setter of the Week honors.

For the week, the 5-foot-10 Brown -- a native of Kelowna, British Columbia -- had 56 kills (3.3 per game), six aces, 43 digs (2.5 per game), five solo blocks and 6 block assists.

Brewton-Parker coach Jason Bryant said it is believed that Brown is the first GACC volleyball player to be named NAIA National Player of the Week.

Paul, a 5-9 product of Woodstock, Ga., totaled 189 assists (11.2 per game), nine kills, five aces, 23 digs, four solo blocks and two block assists in the five matches.

Brewton-Parker lost just two games in the five matches for that week, winning four matches by 3-0 sweeps for 15 victories by sweep this season.

The Lady Barons also reached the 20-win mark for the first time in the five-year program's history, finishing the week with a 21-7 record.
