MOUNT VERNON—The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia provides a supportive home-like environment for families during the stressful time of childhood medical care. Families can stay at the House while children are undergoing treatment for serious illnesses. Professor Roger Byrd always liked the philosophy of the Ronald McDonald House… “Families are stronger when they are together.” That is why he was excited to be asked to join the good work of the organization recently as a member of the Board of Directors. Byrd said, “Having a child that is seriously ill is difficult enough. But being separated from that child during the time of illness and treatment is a tremendous burden. The Ronald McDonald House Charity helps to lessen that burden. For me it echoes the question answered by our Savior in Luke 10:29-37. This charity is certainly ‘neighboring’ as He envisioned.”

Located in Macon, the charity served 421 families in 2013. These families came from 68 counties within Georgia and from eight other states. Over the past three years, the House has maintained over a 90% occupancy rate. The Ronald McDonald House is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
