MOUNT VERNON—Rev. Brad Waters, pastor of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst and a man who is zealous about Jesus Christ, visited Brewton-Parker College as guest pastor for the April 1 chapel service. He preached from Mark 7:31-37, where Christ heals the disabilities of a man who is both deaf and mute. Waters specifically drew attention to the “they” mentioned in verse 32. These people were friends of the deaf man. Waters asked the congregation, “Are you willing to stop at nothing to lead your friends to Christ?”

Waters also spoke about the “awesome touch of compassion” Christ shows not just to the man in the passage, but to any person who seeks Him out. “Whenever there is a physical impediment mentioned in the Bible, there is a greater condition portrayed to us,” Waters stated, referencing the condition of sin that all individuals have.

He also pointed out the “awesome touch of command” that is found in verse 34. With a single word, Christ healed this man. Just as Waters said that the impediments showed a greater condition, the commanding touch of Christ has the authority to heal a sinful heart. For his last point, Waters talked about the awe of the crowd in verse 37.

Voices of Truth led worship for this service.
