MOUNT VERNON—Jordan Thigpen, a senior at Georgia Southern University, led BPC’s chapel service Tuesday, Sept. 3 as guest speaker. Students and faculty sang “Lead me to the Cross,” a song that could be viewed as the theme of the entire service. As students sang the lyrics, they swayed in worship: “Lead me to the cross/ where your love poured out/ bring me to my knees / Lord I lay me down.”

Even though he opened his message with a definition of sin, Thigpen’s message seemed to echo the plea of the song lyrics as he begged people to turn to God. “We’re all seeking something to fulfill ourselves on,” Thigpen stated, “I propose that we find that in Christ.”

Later on, he listed common worldly activities among college students. He then said, “The things we’re trying to fill our lives with are not of God. I don’t know about you, but I find John 3:6 a much better promise than a one night stand with somebody.”

He ended his message by saying, “I beg you to take God at His word.”

Thigpen is the son of Nita Thigpen, who is the assistant for the Brewton-Parker Education Division. Both Thigpens are members of First Baptist Church of Lyons. Thigpen plans on attending seminary after finishing his bachelor’s degree.

Voices of Truth led worship for the chapel service. This was the second of fourteen services.
