MOUNT VERNON—Rev. Tommy Fountain, one of the founders of Fountain of Joy Ministries, spoke at Brewton-Parker’s chapel service October 29. Fountain spoke about an often missed man in the Old Testament, Jabez, who only appears twice in the Bible. The instance that Fountain focused on is in 1 Chronicles 4:9-10, where Jabez asked God to extend his border.

“Jabez was a veracious man,” Fountain stated. He then gave the definition of veracious as somebody who was honest, trustworthy, and possessed integrity. Fountain also noted that Jabez’s name literally means “one who caused pain.” “Can you imagine growing up with a name like that?” he asked.

Later on, Fountain asked, “Can I challenge you today to be veracious?” He also stated that Jabez was a man of vision because he was a man of prayer. Fountain taught that when Jabez asked God to expand his borders, he was literally saying, “God, give me impact and influence in others’ lives.”

Fountain made his final point by showing how God gave Jabez the victory.

Andrew Fountain, the minister of music at First Baptist Church Vidalia and also Tommy’s nephew, led music with his uncle.
