Dr. Thomas Kinchen, president of a Southern Baptist college, the Baptist College of Florida, joined Brewton-Parker’s chapel service as guest speaker Tuesday, Feb. 26. He based his message on Philippians 1:1-5, which revolved around pretending to be a victim of circumstances. He said, “A lot of us claim to be victims when we really aren’t.”

Kinchen went on to inform the chapel congregation that a lot of times they’re not truly a victim in their circumstances, but are instead living the consequences of a decision they’ve made. “The question becomes,” he said, “What kind of decisions are we making today that will have consequences later?”

He went on to ask the congregation, “How do we make the journey from being a victim to becoming a victor?” According to Scripture and Kinchen, the first cornerstone of this transition is having confidence in Christ. Kinchen also taught that God never intended people to live below circumstances, but He did intend for them to live victoriously.
