BPC to Host Blood Drive July 19
MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College will sponsor an American Red Cross blood drive Friday, July 19 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Briscoe Center on Hwy 280 across the street from the campus.
According to Nancy Martin, area Red Cross Senior Account Manager, “Montgomery County is in jeopardy of losing its blood program for lack of community participation. This would mean that we cannot visit and hold blood drives there. Other counties would have to pick up what the community does not support and cover the blood needs of its citizens.”
In the past Brewton-Parker has hosted three drives per year. Over the past two years an average of 15-18 units of blood have been collected. The current goal is to get 20 units of blood, which will ensure enough blood to supply the needs of the citizens of Montgomery County.
As a way to increase donor participation, the Red Cross has a “Summer of Stories” campaign going until Sept. 9 in which they hope to get two more donors to give at every Red Cross drive this summer. This dedication will ensure blood products are available at a moment’s notice. Presenting donors will be entered into a prize drawing with the chance to win an American Express gift card. To watch a patient testimonial or contribute a story to the campaign, visit www.redcrossblood.org/summer.
Members of the community are encouraged to participate in the event. All types of blood are needed. Walk-ins are welcome.
