MOUNT VERNON—Smiles abounded on Tuesday, Aug. 27 as the newest Brewton-Parker College freshman class marched through “Future Baron Way,” the traditional welcoming gauntlet. Composed of older students and faculty members, the gauntlet stretched from the corner of the Math and Science building to the entrance of Saliba Chapel. “Future Baron Way” also marked the student’s entrance into the first chapel service of the year.

Once all students were in place, the special Convocation Chapel service began with the faculty processional. Dr. Cliff Morris, pastor of First Baptist Church of Dublin, and former BPC Board of Trustees member, served as guest speaker. He preached from the book of Jude and centered his message around verse three, in which Jude encourages his readers to “earnestly contend” for the faith.

“We are God-ordained to make an impact,” Morris said. He told the congregation that there are three areas of their lives in which students should earnestly contend: personal, community, and school. He ended his sermon by telling students, “You can come here and get some class credits, or you can help build this school by contending for your faith.”

Morris is also on the board of directors of Gospel Link and is the Dean of Students at the Zambia Bible College.

Chapel services are open to the public, and occur every Tuesday at 10 a.m.
