MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College’s Athletic Director Sheila Simmons and Hawk’s Point Golf Course General Manager and Golf Professional Steve Holton are proud to announce a new partnership to bring intercollegiate golf to the local community, beginning in the 2012-2013 academic year.

Both Men’s and Women’s Golf will join BPC’s other nine intercollegiate sports as an emerging sport in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) – East Division. Golf Pros Holton and Judson Clark will coach the teams, with Clark taking the lead in coaching and Holton focusing on recruiting.

“We are excited about the inaugural men’s and women’s golf program at Brewton-Parker College and our partnership with Hawk’s Point Golf Club,” said Simmons. “Steve Holton has done an amazing job with the renovations of Hawk’s Point, turning it into one of the premier golf courses in Georgia. The men’s and women’s golf teams at BPC will work under the direction of two our finest local golf pros – Steve Holton and Judson Clark. Through this partnership, BPC’s men’s and women’s golf program will be one of the most competitive in the SSAC.”

“We are proud to bring intercollegiate golf to Hawk’s Point,” said Holton. “I will work hard to get it started and plan to recruit kids from my contacts in Florida and other places. I am excited to see the program kicked off and that Judson Clark will be coaching with me. He’s an excellent golfer and has the drive and motivation to make a good team.”

Hawk’s Point Golf Club, owned by Tiger Creek Ranch, LLC, is a challenging 18-hole semi-private course. Hawk’s Point reopened in 2009 after a complete new renovation added a banquet and conference center and the award-winning restaurant, Talons. The course is redesigned as a “shot-makers” course, stretches 6,743 yards from the tips and hosts Champion greens with multiple bunkers and water added.

Hawk’s Point welcomes the LPGA Futures Tour to Vidalia in 2011, 2012 and 2013. This year’s Tour will be held August 22-28. Entering its 31st competitive season in 2011, the LPGA Futures Tour has become the largest international women’s developmental tour. Players of the 54-hole Vidalia Championship seek a guaranteed spot on the LPGA Tour. The last time this invitational was played in Georgia was in 2008 at Chateau Elan Golf Club in Braselton.
