MOUNT VERNON –Brewton-Parker College (BPC) welcomed 112 youth campers and counselors from the Daniell Baptist Association (DBA) to campus last week.

DBA’s Camp SURGE July 18-22 was for students grades 7 to 12. Campers worked in mission teams both on and off campus to provide a helping hand to the community.

“God blessed us through the ministry of 77 teenagers plus dozens of adult counselors during Camp SURGE,” said Robby Smith, DBA missionary. “Ministries of this DBA Camp included washing cars (free of charge), ministering at several nursing homes, and providing block parties for children in Toombs, Montgomery and Wheeler counties.”

In addition to their off-campus activities, the DBA Campers helped BPC in a big way! Campers painted and sanded the light poles lining the main circular driveway, pressure washed the exterior of LeRoy Hall, a men’s residence hall, and scraped and painted the exterior doors of LeRoy. They also restored – with a good sanding and a fresh coat of paint in Barons orange and blue – the outdoor basketball court goals in front of LeRoy.

On Thursday, the youth offered free car washes on campus to faculty, staff and the community. Monday, they set up free car washes at Big Al’s and Harvey’s in Vidalia.

“Ministry is done because of the campers’ love for Jesus and their community,” said Smith. “We love our community and especially Brewton-Parker College and want to help in any way we can. Not only does this type of ministry bless the community and college, it blesses all of us who do the work. It is our pleasure to serve and we are grateful to Brewton-Parker College and our community for allowing us to show Christ’s love.

Natasha Mason, BPC Chief Financial Officer, praised the group’s efforts on campus.

“We are always extremely delighted to have the Daniell Baptist Association campers on our campus. Each year the campers find a new way to serve the Kingdom of God through our campus,” said Mason. “We are indeed grateful for their hard work and service.”

The Daniell Baptist Association is comprised of 50 Georgia Baptist churches located in Montgomery, Treutlen, Wheeler, Toombs and part of Emanuel counties. More about this organization can be found at
