BPC announces Tenth Annual Young Writers Conference
MOUNT VERNON— The Arts & Letters Division of Brewton-Parker College is excited to announce that the Tenth Annual Young Writers Conference will be held this year on February 25, 2011. For years this conference has been the ideal event in which high school students and faculty gather to participate in guided workshops and discussions about writing with professionals. In honor of our tenth year with the conference, we have a special announcement to make. This year we will be able to offer Brewton-Parker academic scholarships to our top competitors in each workshop.
For friends who have been with us in previous years, we look forward to welcoming you back. For those of you who are new to our annual event, we hope that you will join us as we provide an opportunity for students to compete and learn in the workshops. Students also enjoy meeting other young people who have creative interests, as well as taking advantage of the chance to meet professional writers and college professors who are specialists in writing.
Of special note this year, we welcome Sian Jones, who will discuss editing strategies in writing and publishing.
The Young Writers Conference opens with arrival and registration starting at 8:00. This year the conference fee will be $25, which includes a box lunch and a Young Writers tee shirt. Conference activities officially begin at 9:00 with an address given by the conference speaker. Workshops will run between 10:00 and 12:00, followed by lunch in our student center. After lunch we will make awards, and students will be dismissed by 2:30 to allow for plenty of travel time.
To register and for any further information, contact Dr. Thom Brucie, our Director of Creative Writing, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 912-583-3104 or Dr. Ruth Ellen Porter at email@example.com or 912-583-3101.
