2011 Homecoming adopts ’50s theme, announces campus events

50s Pep Rally
Most Outstanding Athletes from a late 1950s Coronet, Edith Yawn and Benny Dees. The 2011 BPC Homecoming theme is the 1950s. These and other photos will be shown in a picture show at the Pep Rally Friday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gillis Gym. The community is welcome to attend. (The Brewton-Parker Coronet)

MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College students adopted a 1950’s theme for their 2011 Homecoming, Feb. 7-12, said Student Government Association President Joshua McPhatter. Continuing the throwback theme, students announced the dance Saturday night will be a Sadie Hawkins-style, where the girls ask the boys.

McPhatter announced several campus events for the week and encourages both students and faculty/staff to participate in each event, including the dress-up days.

Monday, Feb. 7 is Nerd Day. There will be a 4 p.m. Cricket Match at the soccer field hosted by the History Club, a 4 p.m. Junior Varsity Baseball vs. Middle Georgia College game at Baron Field, a 7 p.m. Date Auction in Gates Auditorium. Proceeds of the auction will be split by the Human Services Club and Baptist Collegiate Ministries for mission and human service outreach in the community and abroad. The evening with end with BCM worship at the Briscoe Center at 9 p.m.

Tuesday, Feb. 8 is Twin Day. The Varsity Baseball team will face Edward Waters College in its home opener, a double header beginning at 1 p.m. on Baron Field. An 8:30 p.m. Bonfire at the Baron Ridge Fire Pit will include s ‘mores and games.

Wednesday, Feb. 9 is Blast From the Past. The Junior Varsity Softball team will face Waycross College at 2 p.m. at the softball field. Tonia Spaulding and First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon’s band will lead a Campus Worship Service at Gilder Recital Hall at 7 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 10 is Career Day. The Barons Basketball games against Lee University will begin with a tailgate dinner at 5 p.m. in the Gillis Gym Parking Lot. The women play at 6 p.m. and the men’s follow at 8 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 11 is Spirit Day. The Varsity Softball team will open its 2011 home season against Georgia Southwestern at 2 p.m. A Road Rally/Scavenger Hunt around Toombs and Montgomery counties will begin at 3:45 p.m. Decorate your cars and your team (no more than 5 people on a team, or as many as your car has seatbelts) and meet at Saliba Chapel for the first clue. Dinner will be served at the Gillis Gym at 5 p.m. At 7 p.m. in the Gillis Gym, the faculty and staff will face off against the students in the annual Fac/Staff vs. Students Basketball game. The Cheerleaders and College Advancement staff will host the Homecoming Pep Rally at 7:30 p.m. and include the crowning of the Faculty Homecoming King and Queen and relay games. Homecoming Court practice will be held after the Pep Rally in the Gillis Gym.

Saturday, Feb. 12 will begin with Homecoming Court Picture at the Gillis Gym at 1 p.m. Homecoming Day games begin at 2 p.m. with the Women’s Basketball team facing off against Columbia College. The Homecoming Court and crowning of the King and Queen will be presented at 3:45 p.m. on the basketball court. The Men’s Basketball team plays Allen University at 4 p.m. The Homecoming Sadie Hawkins Dance will begin at 8 p.m. and last until midnight in the Parker Gym.
