MOUNT VERNON— Brewton-Parker College Annual Fund Committee chair, Wendell Dixon, happily experienced “déjà vu” last week when Meadows Regional Medical Center (MRMC) gave a $7,500 donation to BPC’s Annual Fund. This amount brings the fund’s total raised to $225,000 – enough to push it $5,000 “over the top” of its 2010 goal, said Jessica James, director of BPC’s Annual Fund and Grants.
The Annual Fund is the college’s primary outreach for fiscal fundraising each year. All money raised supports classroom equipment, salaries, technology upgrades and maintenance, and mission opportunities in and outside the classroom.
“Last year, it was Meadows Regional Medical Center (MRMC) that put us over the top, and Thursday, it was déjà vu as Brewton-Parker College accepted a check for $7,500 from Alan Kent, CEO and President of MRMC,” said Dixon, senior vice president of Montgomery Bank & Trust.
According to Kent, MRMC’s donation is a reflection of its commitment to higher education in the community, specifically to that of BPC’s prominent educational reputation.
“This is a testimony to not only how MRMC feels about Brewton-Parker College but the whole community as well,” said Kent. “The mere presence of such a high quality educational institution like Brewton-Parker College helps us in many ways, including providing outstanding candidates for jobs among its graduates as well as recruiting high-caliber physicians and health professionals to the region.”
Though the Annual Fund’s goal increased to $220,000 in 2010, Dixon says, his committee never batted an eye.
“Raising the bar simply means you jump higher,” said Dixon. “In 2009, the goal was $175,000, and our committee, with supervision by Jessica James, exceeded that target.”
James hopes to see the same figure this year at the end of their campaign, June 30.
“When the goal was increased by 25 percent, my first thought was the economy, but at our first planning meeting, I could tell this committee was determined,” said James. “Brewton-Parker College is so grateful to Wendell Dixon and the hard work of the committee. The funds will mean so much to the college.”
Dixon added he is grateful for the community’s overwhelming support for the Annual Fund Campaign. This was his second year to serve as the chair of the committee, comprised of members from Toombs and Montgomery counties. Committee members are B.J. Davis, Bob Davis, Wendell Dixon, John Koon, Claire Johnson, Loyd Mobley, Kendall Palmer and Colon Sammons.
James reminds the community that though $225,000 has been raised, the Annual Fund Campaign does not end until June 30. She may be reached at 912-583-3262 for more information about the BPC Annual Fund and how to support Brewton-Parker College.
Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four year Christian college in south Georgia. Affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention, BPC offers bachelor and associate degree programs at its main campus in Mount Vernon and an external location in Newnan.
