MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College’s Women’s Fellowship invites the community to attend the 2nd BPC Chili Cook-off, to be held Saturday, Oct. 24 on the Mount Vernon campus.

             

Last year’s winner was a team comprised of staff members who work in Gates Hall, the main administrative building of Brewton-Parker College. The traveling trophy is up for grabs, and you could determine the next winner by voting for the team of your choice.

             

This year’s teams include the following organization, business or individual. Please note that these are the teams who have registered on or by Monday, Oct. 19.

             

Community Hospice, Stuckey Baptist Church, Gates Hall (BPC), Kiwanis Club of Vidalia, Admissions (BPC), Social & Behavioral Sciences (BPC), Vidalia Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Smith Street Baptist Church, Hub Communications, Poppy’s, Harveys, Brown-Eyed Susan’s Floral and Gifts of Mount Vernon, Troy Reddick a.k.a. “The Campfire Cook”, International Student Services (BPC), James Chapman of Dublin and Mount Vernon Bank.

             

This community-minded, family-fun event will be held between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Celebrity judges will pick the first, second and third place prizes, while each person who tastes the chili will vote for the People’s Choice Award; winner will receive the traveling trophy. A Kiddie Carnival and Paddle Boat rides on Jones Lake are sponsored by the BPC Student Organizations; concessions are sponsored by ARAMARK and SGA. The Historic Village will be open and two costumed Civil War re-enactors will greet guests.

             

The Entertainment schedule is as follows:

             

11 a.m. – BPC Jazz Voices; 11:20 a.m. – Eaglet Twirling; 11:40 a.m. – Montgomery County High School Cheerleaders; Noon – Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) Band; 12:20 p.m. – Carmela Williams; 12:40 p.m. – Diamond Doll Dancers; 1 p.m. – Hallelujah Praise Dancers (of Alamo); 1:20 p.m. – CKM Praise Dancers (Toombs County); 1:40 p.m. – Harvest Chapel Praise Team; 2:20 p.m. – Glimpses of Truth (BPC). 3 p.m. – Winners will be announced

             

You won’t want to miss this fun, family event on the banks of Jones Lake on the Mount Vernon campus. In the event of rain, the day’s activities will be held in the Parker Gym.

Presale tickets are on sale now. Adults are $4. Kiddie Unlimited Chili & Carnival pass is $5 (includes all you can taste chili, unlimited Kiddie Carnival and paddle boat rides)

At the door, tickets are $5 for adults and children; $7 for Kiddie Unlimited Chili & Carnival Pass; and, $5 Unlimited Kiddie Carnival Pass. BPC Students cost is $2. Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in south Georgia. With its main campus located in Mount Vernon, the college also offers bachelor’s and associate’s degrees at its three external sites in Newnan, Norman Park and Liberty County.

About the Entertainers:

Glimpses of Truth is a college youth group for students who are looking for a creative but still powerful form of ministry.  We welcome all students to join and hope to minister to all people, Christian and non-Christian alike.  

The BCM Band is formed each year by Brewton-Parker students for the purpose of leading worship through the Campus Ministry. Whether on- or off-campus, our desire is to glorify God, and we welcome others to join us as we worship Him.

Diamond Doll Dance Studio is located in downtown Mt. Vernon across from the beautiful historic court house. The studio is in its fourth year and is owned by Caroline Peery.  Classes are offered in tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, clogging, hip hop and baton for ages 2 and up. Carmela Williams

Carmela Williams is a licensed Missionary under the leadership of her Pastors Elijah & Bernice Frazier. Her anointing is that of evangelism in song. She has been trained in the area of music for over 10 years and teaching for over five years. Carmela’s concerts are designed to uplift, to encourage, to inspire and to lead unbelievers into the body of Christ. She is an anointed worship leader and effectively leads the body into worship. Carmela uses the word of God, life experiences, and music to reveal Jesus Christ as Lord!  Carmela’s 3rd cd project, Mount Up, will be released on October 10th.  www.CarmelaWilliams.com

The BPC Jazz Voices are under the direction of Dr. Sonja Sepulveda, professor of music at BPC.

Hallelujah Angels Dance Ministry travels to various churches, ministering to God’s people. They have ministered in Baxley, Glennville, Douglas, Fitzgerald, Millen, Dublin, Eastman, Vidalia, Jacksonville, Fla. and many more. This anointed group of young people love to praise God through dance.
