BPC invites community to Homecoming Parade Feb. 14

Brewton-Parker College will celebrate its Homecoming Week Feb. 9 through Feb. 14 – and invites the community to the celebration.
For the first time in recent memory at the college, the Student Activities Council is hosting a parade, which will feature class representatives of the college’s Homecoming Court, BPC Baron athletic teams, campus student organizations and the Treutlen High School Band. Dr. David R. Smith and Mrs. Jackie Smith, BPC president and his wife, will be the parade’s marshals.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, and will start at the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon parking lot, travel along Highway 280 in front of the college and end at Dowling Hall on the college campus. The community is encouraged to watch the parade as it rolls down Highway 280. Local civic, school and church groups interested in supporting the college and participating in the parade are welcome. Line-up is at 9 a.m. Contact Dean of Students Sherrie Helms at 583-3206 to register an entry today.
Students are invited to a full schedule of weeklong events Feb. 9-14. This year’s Homecoming Theme is “A Fairy Tale Story”. Students are asked to mark their calendars and make every effort to attend and participate in these activities, planned by the Student Activities Council.
Monday – Crazy Hair Day, Baron Idol at 9 p.m. in Gates Hall Auditorium
Tuesday – Decade Day (Old School Day), Baseball Tailgate beginning at 5 p.m., Dinner will be served at Gillis Gym; Baseball game, 6 p.m., Baron Field
Wednesday – Pajama Day, Step Show at 8 p.m. in the Parker Gym
Thursday – Sports Day, Basketball games in the Gillis Gym: Women at 6 p.m., Men at 8 p.m.
Friday – Spirit Day, Pep Rally and Faculty/Staff vs. Students (non-athletes) Basketball Game in the Gillis Gym at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday – Parade, Hwy 280 at 10 a.m.; Softball games beginning at 1 p.m.; Basketball games: Women at 2 p.m., Men at 4 p.m.; Crowning Ceremony held between Men’s and Women’s Basketball Games, Gillis Gym; Homecoming Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight in the Parker Gym.
The BPC Athletic events are open to the public and the community is encouraged to come out and support the Barons.
Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in south Georgia.
