BPC honors employees with spring Faculty-Staff Banquet

MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College announced the winners of the annual Faculty Member of the Year and Staff Member of the Year awards, and honored 15 employees for a combined 160 years of service to the college during the spring Faculty and Staff Appreciation Dinner held April 26 in the Gillis Gym on the Mount Vernon campus.

Tammy Foskey, interim registrar, is presented a plaque for being named 2007 Staff Member of the Year by Dr. David R.Smith, BPC president. Foskey was also recognized for 25 years of employment with the college.

Dr. David R. Smith, president of Brewton-Parker College, also recognized Dr. Melba Claxton, professor and coordinator of early childhood education, on her retirement from a 25-year teaching career with the college. Dr. Smith presented her with a plaque clock commemorating her time with the college.

Dr. Claxton began teaching children’s literature education and English education in the college’s Division of Education in 1982; however, she first started working at the college as a staff member employed as a business manager in 1960. She is a native of Uvalda, Ga.

Dr. Smith also presented Tammy Foskey, interim registrar, with the Staff Member of the Year Award. Prof. Skye Jordan, assistant professor of education, was awarded The Bryan E. Rampey Faculty Member of the Year Award.

Employees honored for significant employment anniversaries with the college include the following:

  • Five years: Michael Aoa (Director of Student Activities), Barry Bull (Reference Librarian), Dr. Bill Denni (Director of the Learning Assistance Program), Dr. Vicki Hill (Assistant Professor of English and Director of the Writing Center), Treva Johnson (PC/Network Technician), Dr. Christopher Jones (Associate Professor of Chemistry), Prof. Skye Jordan, Dr. Sheryl Kay Lagasse (Assistant Professor of Education), and Dr. Charlene Williams (Professor of Management).
  • Ten years: Patricia Mercer (Part-time Instructor and Curriculum Lab Coordinator)
  • Fifteen years: Inez Adams (Head Cashier)
  • Twenty years: Prof. Zeke Addison (Associate Professor of Art), Ann Calhoun (Assistant Professor of Physics and Mathematics)

Both Foskey and Dr. Claxton were honored for 25 year careers.
