Dan Parker, a BPC alumnus and CEO of Parker Executive Search of Atlanta, will be this year’s commencement speaker in Mount Vernon. Parker celebrates his 40th class reunion with Brewton-Parker during the May ceremony.

Parker’s firm, Parker Executive Search, was responsible for the recruitment of BPC’s newest administration addition, Dr. Cindy L. Skaruppa, vice president for enrollment services. According to BPC president, Dr. David R. Smith, Parker pushed BPC’s need ahead of other international executive searches from global corporations, other colleges and universities and collegiate atheletic programs. The former trustee’s commitment to Brewton-Parker also includes the recruitment of Dr. Smith “pro bono” 10 years ago.

Parker will also join former music chair, Miss Hildegard Stanley, as the recipient of the college’s top honor during the main campus ceremony. Parker and Stanley will each be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.

Born and raised in Long County, Parker earned an associate’s degree at Brewton-Parker in 1967 and then earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree, both in political science with a minor in history, from the University of Georgia (UGA). He is married to Janice, and he has three children.

Prof. Stanley, or “Miss Hiddie” as she is affectionately known, has impacted the lives of numerous students over her landmark career at Brewton-Parker, which began in 1967. Stanley currently serves as a part-time Consultant to the President for External Relations. A $1.1 million music center currently under construction on the Mount Vernon campus has been named in her honor.

Brewton-Parker’s External Programs graduates will be honored in a commencement ceremony at Calvary Baptist Temple Church on Waters Avenue in Savannah. The ceremony begins at 6 p.m.

Dr. Bill Faw, dean of external programs, will be the commencement speaker for the Savannah ceremony. Dr. Faw is also a professor of psychology in the college’s Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
