MOUNT VERNON – Brewton-Parker College’s Lady Baron Volleyball team honored the four players of the 2006 Senior Class during a Senior Day ceremony Nov. 4 in the Parker Gym on the Mount Vernon campus.

“This year’s seniors led the Lady Barons to four straight conference tournaments, Conference Runner-Up in 2003 and two NAIA Region XIII tournaments,” said assistant coach Michael Aoa during the ceremony.

“This group of seniors will always have a special place in the heart of Brewton Parker Volleyball,” head coach Jason Bryant added.

The team said “farewell and thank you” to seniors Debbie Sooter (#1), Kendra Brown (#3), Elizabeth Hinely (#4) and Jessica Ulin (#6).

Sooter, the team’s standout player and four-year starter, was named 2006 SSAC Libero of the Year. Her other 2006 season accomplishments were being named to 1st Team All-Conference, Conference All-Academic, and winning the SSAC Libero of the Week five times and NAIA Region XIII Libero of the Week three times.

In addition to holding all school records for digs, Sooter’s career honors include 2nd All-Time NAIA in Career Digs (3,123) and Ninth All-Time NAIA Digs in a season (989). She also holds the following records: 4th All-Time NAIA Digs in a five-game match (57) and four-game match (46); three time SSAC All-Conference and three time SSAC All-Academic.

She is the daughter of Mike and Joanne Sooter of Nampa, Idaho, and is studying business management.

Brown is the daughter of Shelia Brown and the late Ken Brown of Oxford, Ala., and is studying early childhood education. She has been relied on as “the spiritual leader of the team,” Aoa said.

“Her ability to overcome adversity has been an inspiration to everyone,” he added.
