Miss BPC Pageant invites contestants

By Kelley Arnold

Interim Director of Marketing

Brewton-Parker College will host the second Miss BPC Pageant April 17 on the Mount Vernon campus, and is now inviting applicants from among its freshmen through senior students to compete in the ambassador and beauty competition.

Applicants should submit applications to Dr. Julie Tiu by April 8.

The winner of the pageant will be expected to be a role model and spokeswoman on and off campus for one full year. She will represent the college as an ambassador for various functions in order to promote student enrollment and campus life activities.

Pageant directors are Millie Price, BPC Class of ’97; Rhonda Graham, BPC Class of ’97; and Lana Graham. All are members of the First Baptist Church of Lyons.

Miss BPC will receive a $400 award, crown, sash, trophy and flowers. First runner-up: $300 award/trophy; Second runner-up, $100 award/trophy; Third runner-up: $100 award/trophy; Interview winner: $100 award/trophy; Photogenic winner: trophy; People’s Choice: trophy.

The Price Spirit of Brewton-Parker Award will be given to the contestant that attends all required rehearsals prior to the pageant, displays a Christian attitude and kindness towards others at the rehearsals, and is not selected in the top four contestant winners. This is a director’s award based on cooperation and effort put forth by the contestants. The Price Award is from Mr. Jimmy Price and Mrs. Miller-Holder Price, alumni members of the BPC Class of 1996 and 1997.

The People’s Choice award is based on votes from the audience. Each contestant is encouraged to ask friends, family and special guests to vote for them and is asked to prepare a shoe box to have their votes collected. The decorative shoe boxes will be on display in the front lobby of the pageant. The pageant will be held at 6 p.m. in the Gilder Recital Hall in the Miller Music Building.

Pageant contestants are reminded that modest, age appropriate attire is strongly encouraged. Application fee is $20. Contact Dr. Tiu at to obtain an application.

Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in south Georgia.
