Mission Statement of the Division of Music

The Brewton-Parker College Division of Music strives to provide a professional and nurturing atmosphere, housed in the liberal arts tradition and guided by the Christian faith, whereby students and faculty may flourish as human beings and musicians within their chosen field of musical expression. By way of cultural/musical activities, experiences in the studio, classroom, rehearsals and performances and service to all communities, students are afforded opportunities for intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual growth preparing them for meaningful service to humankind.

The Music Division of Brewton-Parker College offers four degree programs: Bachelor of Music with a major in Music Education, Bachelor of Music with a major in Performance, Bachelor of Music with major in Church Music and the Bachelor of Arts in Music. Upon graduation, the students are prepared to pursue his/her chosen profession in music. The Division provides a curriculum that serves the students' needs in a Christian environment in both the classroom and private study. By the time the student graduates he/she has matured in musical knowledge and values, and is prepared for further pursuits in music.

Objectives of the Division of Music

  • To prepare students to teach music in the nation's public and private schools in grades K-12.
  • To prepare students to pursue a professional career in musical performance.
  • To prepare students to have a successful career as a minister/director of music in the nation's churches.
  • To prepare students to pursue further studies in music.
  • To provide a major in music in concert with a liberal arts education.
  • To provide a broad, global, cultural background for the music major.
  • To provide general music courses, private study, and performing ensembles for the college community.
  • To provide a planned sequence of music experiences for students in other majors through the minor in music.
  • To provide cultural opportunities for the college community and general public.
