Field Experience

General Information

Field Experiences in the Teacher Education Program at Brewton-Parker College are designed to facilitate candidates’ professional development and growth through opportunities for observing

P-12 clinical faculty modeling best teaching practices in climates that value diversity, foster tolerance and understanding, and respect for cultural heritage in both learning and teaching.  Authentic classroom settings used in field experiences provide candidates opportunities for the application of and reflection on the development of their knowledge, skills, and dispositions for helping all students learn.  Field Experiences are both sequential and incremental as well as intensive and extensive in covering the appropriate content and levels of candidates programs and allowing candidates opportunities to work with students with exceptionalities and students from diverse ethnic, racial, gender and socioeconomic groups.

The goal of Field Experiences is to assist the candidate as they travel down Reflective Pathways from Theory to Practice to becoming a Reflective Educator with a Christian Worldview.  A candidate who:

  • understands and demonstrates knowledge of learner characteristics,
  • develops lesson plans using technology and a variety of instructional methods,
  • demonstrates mastery of content,
  • promotes creative and critical thinking,
  • demonstrates proficiency in writing and expression,
  • utilizes formal and informal methods and assessments,
  • demonstrates an understanding of student diversity,
  • promotes motivation and positive social interaction,
  • reflects upon practice and continues to grow professionally, and
  • possesses a Christian disposition toward school, local, state, national, and world values while reinforcing the dignity and worth of the individual.
